Home Landscaping Tips for Homeowners
January 27th, 2012 | Posted by in Real EstateLandscaping can make or break the appeal of a house for rent or sale. Curb appeal is what everyone is interested in, especially when it comes to selling a house or putting up an apartment for rent. To start one should look at what they currently have. What do they like about it and what would they like to chance? Get advice from neighbors and drive around getting ideas before drawing up the plans.
When drawing plans for landscaping, be sure to keep in mind the general purpose of the area. If it is an area that children play in or there is a family area, make sure to leave enough space for extra room. Picking the plants is enjoyable but can be overwhelming. Each plant needs to a certain amount of room to grow. Deciding how much room you have can be beneficial in selecting the plants. Plants require a certain amount of room for their roots, a plant that has an extensive root system, may crowd out others.
Not all plants will bloom at the same time. By staging the plants in various locations, one can have a landscape that has color year round. If all the plants boom at the same time, the landscape will only be colorful for a short amount of time. Some flowers like tulips are late bloomers and when they are done the next one can bloom and so forth. Flowering bushes and shrubs are excellent choices to make sure there is color all the time. For shrubs and bushes make sure to put them at least four feet apart, this will ensure that there is plenty of room as bushes can quickly expand.
Sidewalks and walkways are not just appealing to the eye, but they also help keep mud out of the home. Stepping stones are an inexpensive way to line a walkway. Be sure to place stepping stones at least a foot length apart. They need to make sure that they are easily able to step from stone to stone without having to be in the mud. Decorative pebbles in between the stepping stones can not only help keep the weeds down but it will look attractive as well.
Something that can enhance the landscape and curb appeal of the property is the front door. A bland white door will blend in with the home, especially if the house is white. Painting the door a nice color will add style and sophistication to the home. If there are no shutters, add shutters and paint the door to match. If there are already shutters in the home, paint the shutters and door a coordinating color. It is a little trick that can add a great deal of pizzazz. There are a great deal of things that can be done to the home to make it stand out from the neighbor’s and be the envy of the neighborhood.
